Best Options In Midfield For Villa?

Best Options In Midfield For Villa?

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by trinityroj, what is our best midfield combination assuming we get no new players (again, new players, what a strange concept!).

The clear favourite with 56% of the votes was: Barry/Davis/McCann/Hendrie.

Next with 18% of the votes was Berger/Barry/McCann/Davis.

11% went for Barry/Djemba-Djemba/Berson/Davis.

7% saw the attraction of having Gabby on the wing with Barry/Davis/McCann/Agbonlahor.

6% STAY AWAKE AT THE BACK, said Berger/Barry/Djemba twins/Davis

And 2% wanted Peter Whittingham to join Barry/McCann/Hendrie

I am no expert on this, but it seemed to me last season that McCann had lost a lot of speed and looked behind the play. How about we buy Owen Hargreaves, keep Barry, keep Davis and let Hendrie roam. With one great signing we would have options of the bench and Baros should at least get some service. Oh I forgot we can not even afford a cup of coffe and a massage!

Berson has to get some look in this season as McCannt at least needs to have some competition for his place. By the way, do we have any pace in any of the above combinations?

I'd love to see Hargreaves at VP but come on, leave B. Munich for VP as it is now, not a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think if we were sign 2 players, we could turn around all the negativity around VP, bring the fans back and give oleary no more excuses. We need a defender and a midfield to provide competition in both areas. Defence either Thuram, Campbell, Silvestre or Huth. Midfield Hargreaves or Milner. I know that I am dreaming but a little imagination can go a long way. If we at least get into bidding players will see we have ambition.

I would like to see him try DJ x2 or Berson with Davis. If McCann gets the impression his place isn't guaranteed, which it is at the moment, he might improve his performance

I think that Djemba-Djemba given a decent stretch in the side could actually do a job for us. Berson I'm far from convinced about, but he's certainly an option when compared to our very mediocre midfield of last season. I'd go with Hendrie, Djemba-Djemba, Davis, and Barry.
