The Rumour Mill - 11/07/06

According to the Daily Mirror, Portsmouth are set to make an improved 4.25 million offer for Gareth Barry. DOL has already stated that Barry and Davis are the only 2 players he won't consider selling, and even so you have to think any club would need to atleast double that offer to get close!

As for The Sun, they seem convinced that Melly is off to Levante and there appears to be some strength in this rumour as its been doing the rounds for a while now. But surely the 2million quoted can't be right???

The Daily Star hints at a swap deal involving James Milner and JPA. YES PLEASE!!!

And finally the old Delaney/Blackburn rumour has re-surfaced for the 100th time but this time the Daily Mail seem to think it will be a free transfer!!! Not a chance in hell!

WHy do all the tabloids seem convinced that Villa will sell all their players on the cheap? Oh now I remember its coz Doug is a crap business man!
DeanoVilla
Once again all the transfer rumours are players out. DOUG!! Get some players IN!
xfranc
Villa are in trouble, oops.
blueknight
According to reports "yawn". Villa are lining up a deal to bring Bobby Zamora to Villa Park.
still skeggy
Unfortunately Villa have been constant underachievers in the past few seasons. How will selling JPA help? Milner may create chances but who will put them away? Baros will be off when a deal is done, he can't be worth more than 7.5m. Barry is a good player but really worth 4.25m?...maybe. Now Delaney should go, if money is received for him that would be a bonus!!!
MrOpinionated
JPA will hit it off next season, we should keep him for one more season at least. Hopefully him and berger (if ever fit) will strike up a good partnership. We must keep barry aswell who should drop into mcanns position
son_of_cher
Get routledge for right midfield aswell
son_of_cher
No chance for Routledge, Cher's sprog, sorry. Once again it is all bad news. Any chance of a merger between AV and say Wolves? Is there a for sale sign on the car park yet?
TeddyLyon
Thank God it's all bull*****ee eh?

Let's just wait for the "small squad" excuses to start be rolled out after the first few games of the season
DougInABox
if DOL starts using the small squad excuse ill chin him myself, its his fault the squad is small, he sold our players and did not replace them with proven quality. Doug may have had a hand is the transfer fees but O'leary has forced 15-20 players out and replaced them with only 3 decent(ish) players....sorenson, baros, bouma....cant think of anymore at the moment. At least the pitch has been relaid so he cant use that pathetic excuse anymore
son_of_cher
I agree with Deano, Its amazing that most of the stories are for villa selling. After just surviving last season you would think that we would be looking to increase the size and quality of the squad. If we have no cash to spend get the players on the free transfers it would at least give the fans a little optimism. This is the time you are looking to sell season tickets, again where is the planning?
NY Villa
NY, dont know how close your ear is to the ground but this is the least optimistic I have been going back to the 70's.
Survival is the target and a sale to someone/some consortium with enough money to get Villa back to where they were a few years ago.
Whilst Ellis is there though I will go to away matches only.
AC
Sky sports states wev signed 2 16 yr olds goin by the names of yago bellion and damien bellion. wont c em 4 a while though so they wont keep us up.
No.1_villan
AC, I hear what you are saying, but that is my whole point. Villa have to reinvigorate the fan base and rebuild confidence to show that we are looking forward. Bil/Millionaires are looking for bargins or a well run operation. Doug has slapped a price on it that is clearly not a bargin and we are not well run. If he was seriously looking to get his capital out he could have done a couple of times and sat with a seat on the board. Thw problem is we have an owner who does not know what he wants. I believe he loves Villa, he just can not make a decision. Ranson offered good money and I think would have run a better operation, but Doug would not sell because he had no money for transfers? But how much has he given this year? It sounds good, but what we need is a GM who can get the bums in the seats and then spend in the transfer market. With the Villa fan base we are as big as Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal. This is not difficult, it is common sense. The problem is that we have an ego driven owner and a bunch of yes men on the board!
NY Villa
NY, could not have put it better myself.
AC
DOL is quoted as saying he only wants hungry players and if they are not hungry they can ship out.... Postma on the way back? That was from the official site by the way the hungry bit
fatloser
Did someone suggest Barry was worth 8.5m? What with A 5m cashback.
storagematt
DOL wants hungry players, so what are Villa now skimping on the players lunch money as well, 4.5m will be enough for Barry to join Pompey and Milner will be the first new signing if he is interested.
TeddyLyon
Cant afford to sell anyone, particularly the likes of JPA, unless/until we absolutely know for sure that replacements are definitely coming in. We just cant run the risk of weakening the squad any more than it currently is, otherwise it will be backs to the wall right from the get go.
