'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sunday News Update

A fast and furious day for news coming from Villa Park has seen two newspaper links appear.

The News Of The World say: Aston Villa boss David O'Leary is on the trail of Manchester City's Danny Mills.

Daily Star Sunday: Hamburg are bidding to sign Aston Villa striker Milan Baros for 5m.

I am of course, exaggerating. Come on guys this is Aston Villa.

The official website has posted one of those nice little 'I'll do better' articles, this time from rookie midfielder Craig Gardner.

He's going to be a 'man on a mission' next year, to try and break into first team. Well, break into the first team and do well that is. With the summer transfer budget looking around the 3million mark (If you're a good boy David!) players such as Gardner are looking to be that 'just like a new signing' kinda guy.

He said: 'Last season was all about getting into the squad and I did that. I made a few appearances and was regularly in the squad.

'That was progress and now I have to progress again. I want to be involved more and more, so I'll have to work harder than ever when we come back for pre-season.'

Lets hope he does, at this rate it'll be an all British middle 4. I for one don't mind losing Gavin McCann if the likes of Gardner can prove that they can do his job, and then extra by going forward.

What do you think?

I think that McCann is past his sell by date, he had a good season for us in his first but has gone backwards since then. Give Gardener a chance alongside Berson and Davis with Barry on the left. If we then lack "steel" in the middle, try the Djember twins, heck we've got these players and made something of a fuss about getting DJ *2 and Berson, so let's use them.
Villain Of The North
Villa Park should be a hive of activity right now, with players coming and going. Yet here we are, the upcoming season fast approaching, and virtually nothing to report on from inside of Villa Park.

I see the supply line for Milan Baros is shaping up well. McCanns vision combined with the pace, strength and endeavour of Gardener should have any team reaching for the spare pants. For goodness sake at least give Berson a go he could do it in the champs league...and Bouma played champs league in midfield as well. What about we give him a go as well in his proper position and he may look worth his cash. Davis on the right.

How much cash is suggested in the story? It's all gobbledegook from here...

Neil, cant you read? Gracious man, do your spectacles need cleaning? It clearly states Hamburg are willing to bid 5m. Thats enough in my book!

Berson needs a decent run. Like Villain of The North says, we went through so much fuss to get these players, the least we can do is give them a chance before we write them off. They must be better than what was already there. I would be the first to admit that the Twins hasn't looked Prem quality, but then again he's never had a decent enough run in the team. If Ferguson saw enough him he can't be that bad

My prediction for what its worth... Baros will stay, Mills will not come and Gardner will not improve next season as he looked well below the quality needed for a premiership player.

its amazin that people are now starting to try and kid themself how good dejemba could be if 'givin a chance' Between Man Utd and us he has had enough chances to make it, and is not interested in the prem cause its too fast and hard.Back to france with him i say.Would think Gardner has a lot of 'Hunger' so would be trying his upmost to dislodge an aged McCann. And if DO'L wants the best out of davis he should try giving him a few breaks now and then and so Berson could be givin a proper chance by rotating the pair.

The point is that Djemba x2 has never been given more than two consecutive games to prove whether he actually is as poor as we think, or whether he can cut it at VP. But I suppose the lack of interest in him speaks volumes
DougInABox
McCann has struggled for a couple of years. But from what I saw of Gardner he has a long way to go even to reach that standard.

I agree that DJ*2 doesn't look up to the job but how many games did he play for MUTD before he came to us and then how many games has he played for us? If nothing else, get him out on the pitch to increase his resale value. Maybe he would be up to the job if he got used to the pace of the english game, bit like Shrek's brother in that way, Bouma was like a fish out of water at the start and still hadn't completely adapted by the end of the season.
Villain Of The North
Some players just don't adapt to the Prem. look at Savo. Distinctly average at best in the Prem, outstanding in the UEFA Cup games he played and since he moved to Spain he's done extremely well. But if Djemba isn't given the chance to adapt by actually playing then it's pointless. Look at Balaban...one of the top scorers in Belgium for the last two seasons and in Croatia's WC squad. And again at Villa he didn't get a look in
