'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aston Villa Defender Has A Dream

Gary Cahill says he is 'flattered' that Steve Staunton approached him to play for the Republic of Ireland but has decided to pursue his dream of playing for England.

The 20-year-old Aston Villa central defender said: 'It's always been my dream to play for England. Who doesn't want to play for their country?'

'Every player knows that if he performs well, he has the chance of an international call-up. I've played for England at Under-19 and Under-20, so the next step for me is to get into the Under-21s. But I'm concentrating totally on what happens at Villa. I want to be involved from the start of the season and I'll be pushing for a starting place.'

Keeping his feet on the ground he says there is a 'long, long way to go before that can happen' and that his focus is on what he can do for Villa.

'If I can get into the Under-21s next season, I'll be delighted. That's partly because I'll only get the call if I'm doing well for Villa.'

His dream is to be on the plane with England in four years time for the next World Cup (hopefully when England defend their title of World Champions?!)

I hope he achieves his dream. However, unfortunately, England managers seem to have great difficulty finding Villa Park. Should we send McClaren a route finder???

Actually they have no problem finding VP, but unfortunately when they get there they have the wear special goggles (provided by Doug) that make all Villa players invisible. After all, why should anyone else at VP have ambition, Doug hasn't so he does all he can to remove it from everyone else.

Fair play to Cahill though. Would have been very easy for him to do a Jlloyd and suddenly decide he's not English anymore just to get to a world cup

He's got a very important season on the horizon. Needs to win his first team place, and then remain a regular. He's looked up to the task so far, but now the hard part really begins.
