de la Cruz, Have A Horrible Game!

Aston Villa defender Ulises de la Cruz doesn't appear to be scared of taking England on this afternoon and believes the heat - it is expected to hit 90 degrees this afternoon in Stuttgart - will be in Ecuador's favour.

He said: 'I hope the weather is hot because that will be very good for our players. It won't be easy for England and we really want to stay in the competition. This is a very special game for all of us and the first 20 or 30 minutes will be very important. I understand English football and the mentality of the players, but this is a very different type of game with different tactics and everybody will be very motivated.'

'I have played against big teams before and England are certainly a big team, but we are not nervous. It's the same for us as facing Brazil or Argentina.'

He also says this is a historic game for Ecuador because they have never progressed out of the group stages before.

Ecuador havent particularly impressed me, but then, neither has our lot. Should be close, maybe extra time, possibly even penalties. My only reason for optimism is that while Ecuador have possibly over-achieved, the opposite has been the case with us.

Things could (he says more in hope than anything) pick up now we are in the knock out stages, if they don't then the suffering will be over and the plane ride back will hopefully be full of turbulance for the team! The thoughts of 4-5-1 with Rooney up front could just make the difference as Gerrard and Lampard will be able to get forward more if Carrick does play the holding role. COME ON ENGLAND. Then Portugal or Holland next. Easy this world cup lark!

Gerrard is the key to all this, not Lumplard. Rooney being up front is suicidal - the guy can only play for 10 minutes before getting knackered. And, no doubt, the players will moan about the heat. Call themselves professional? A complete disgrace to the great game football once was...

Well, Nice to see a positive attitude here (sic). Ok I'm speaking with hind-sight now but I never thought that we'd loose. Let's face it, when England must comtrol and run the game, we struggle, but when we have an oponent we can get up at and in their faces, we start to really play, just like in the 1st half against Sweden. I reckon we can now go on to beat Portugal and I also reckon that it will be by 2 or more goals.

I'm hoping that revenge will fire England on to beat Portugal. Though by the way they were flinging themselves all over the place against Holland there may be a few cards flying about. At least Deco is out...he's quality.
