Villa Skipper Becomes The Enemy!

Aston Villa skipper becomes the enemy, but just for tonight!

Sweden captain Olof Mellberg is looking to keep Wayne Rooney in his pocket tonight.

Good luck with that!

Olof told the official site:

'Rooney is a great player, but we can deal with him. That's our job and we are really solid at the back.'
He also warns England that although they haven't scored, they have created the chances and it is only a matter of time.

Villa could also face an ex Villan as Marcus Allback might make a start should Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unable to prove his fitness after sustaining an injury.

Allback said 'My time in the Premiership was a disappointment. Maybe I wasn't good enough. I don't think so, but you can't just say I was good and the managers were not.'

lets hope mellberg plays well, he is obviously giving his all this tournament for a quick route out of villa park (have you seen how many tv interviews he's done!?) 6m for melly from Bayern would be nice, but lets face it doug would except 3m if the bid came in. I like the guy just think its time for him to move on and for us to get a new captain who doesnt hoof the ball so much

I know that Rooney's not exactly big and that Melberg is in fact quite big, but even then, I cant see him managing to get an entire person in his pocket!!!! ;o)
Villain Of The North
Olof could have had a hat trick tonight, Englands defending was atrocious. As for Olof giving interviews, he's the England-based captain of a team playing England, and he speaks English. Of course the media are going to want to talk to him.

Thought he played very well, and showed exactly why we can ill afford to let him go. How we'll ever replace him with the financial restraints that Ellis has in place, is beyond me.
glensider
Exactly glensider. I agree he looked good...better than he has at VP for most of last season to be honest! And he looked a threat from set pieces too. Although that wasn't difficult the way England defended
