Villa Striker Gunning For New Season

Villa Striker Gunning For New Season

Kevin Phillips is looking to the new season to kick-start his Villa career after suffering 'the worst season' he has ever had during his first term at Villa Park.

Phillips, who bagged 5 goals in 22 games, had a season blighted by injuries.

He told the official site that the season was 'very disappointing' for everyone involved adding 'the momentum wasn't there. We were inconsistent all too often. When we did get a good result, we didn't back it up with another one and you can't afford not to do that in the Premiership.'

Adding 'On a personal side, it was the worst season I've ever had. I had my fair share of injuries and I don't think the two months I had out with my ankle injury helped, because I felt before that I was just starting to get a bit of fitness and a run of form. I can understand how frustrated the supporters must have been, but I'm determined to look after myself in the summer, come back for pre-season training and give it another good shot.'

And the highlight for the former Sunderland and Southampton striker? 'I'll never forget scoring the derby goal when we won away at Birmingham City.'

Good man!

I hope he can turn it on, I've always been a massive fan of Phillips, hope don't just get the tail end of a great career.

Thought he was a good signing when DOL brought him in. He's a very clever player and links up well with the midfield. His experience will be useful for players like Moore and gabby

He's never been a target man so why not use all that experience and "link up" ability by playing him in "the hole" either with one up front or in the Paul Scholes mould as an attaking midfielder?

He's another one that I'll be surprised to see still at Villa Park come big kick-off day. If it comes down to keeping him or JPA, which it presumably will, I'd pull for the latter everytime. Obviously his best days are behind him, its just a pity that we didnt witness him at Villa Park in his prime. Then again though, we never could have afforded him.

More guff from the players about putting last season behind them and doing better next season. Memo to all Villa players: Do all of your talking on the pitch please.

The players propaganda builds up again, that said I believe Phillips should play just behind the front two
