Villa Rookie Looking For Action

Rookie Villa striker Sam Williams wants to follow Luke Moore and Gabriel Agbonlahor's examples and force his way into the first team.

Williams told the official site:

'I had a great spell for the reserves around the turn of the year and that got me the loan move to Wrexham. Things went well there. They played me in the hole and I created more goals than I scored, but the experience was brilliant. I've seen players like Gabby and Gary Cahill get a chance. Craig Gardner's been in and around the first-team squad since Christmas as well.'

Adding

'Hopefully I can be the next one to catch the manager's eye. I know I'll have to work harder than ever when I come back for pre-season training, but I'm ready for that. The manager has shown he will put young players in and it's up to me to keep getting goals for the reserves and hopefully get a chance.'

Creative midfielder, creates more goals than he scores, plays in the hole.. There's a lot of pressure on our young players to fill the void of quality, I hope you're up to it Sam...

I think he was just justifying why he didnt score to many goals for Wrexham rather than saying thats the sort of player he is. But your right we are putting so much pressure on our youngters, would be nice to get a few signing in to try and help them but I'm not holding my breath.

Disagree with "puttining to much pressure on the younger players" it will give a proper assessment of their caracter.Look at how Davis has taken to the task.Man U famously won the league with kids(though we did beat them start of that season)not saying we have the quality of becks or scholes, who are or have been world class, coming through but we will at least blood them in the league and you never know sam could be the "man"

Yes, but for all the Man Utd youngsters coming through, they also had old war horses and experienced players to help them along, that is something that Villa lack. When the chips are down you need a leader on the pitch to help the youngers through. The fans aren't very patient with the kids either, a few mistakes and everyone is jumping up and down saying they will never make it, next game they play well and they are world class.!

From what I've seen of young Williams, he definitely impressed me. Seems as if the loan spell up at Wrexham did him the world of good too, and he's now hungry to pull on the claret and blue shirt. He'll get his chance, but I agree with the sentiment that these youngsters need wise old heads around them, and Ellis is making yet another huge mistake if he for one minute things that these kids will immediately turn things around. They wont. They need experience and quality around them, something we are sadly lacking.
