Milner Transfer Saga Rumbles On

Different articles are drawing different conclusions on the James Milner situation.

His agent told skysports.com 'We have had discussions with Newcastle about James. There has been a meeting and there is another one planned soon to see what Newcastle want to do regarding James. We know Aston Villa are interesting and we are just waiting to see what happens at Newcastle's end before progressing.'

What a lovely compliment, Aston Villa are interesting!!! Mind you, I don't think he can have seen us play last season! :(

Apparently Glenn Roeder is yet to make a decision on the Newcastle winger who spent all of last season on loan at Villa Park but with reports linking the Magpies to Steed Malbranque of Fulham, it would seem probably IF WE EVER PUT A BID IN that we could lure Milner to Villa permanently.

A fee of £3.5million is thought likely for the 20-year-old winger. David O'Leary is desperate for the signing to be made as he looks to build the team around Milner and Steven Davis.

Newcastle and Villa are playing a dangerous game of brinksmanship here... Waiting to see which one will flinch first. But if Newcastle want to sell Milner in order to fund Malbranque, we might be able to get him cheaper.. I would expect that, if we wait another month or so, we could get him for 2.75 million... ;)

Are u sure it wasnt meant to be Aston Villa are INTERESTED???

Fee should already have been agreed when Milner joined on loan. If he was no good, we could have sent him back. But if, as has happened, he played well, then we would have had first option. Where do we go if we lose out on Milner?

Totally agree Douginabox, would have been a blinding loan deal if we'd agreed a fee in advance. Still, forward thinking and planning never was the boards strength, not sure what is to be honest.
The Fear
Got to disagree there GaztonVilla. I cant see Milners fee ever dropping, and the longer we sit on the fence, the more other clubs will become interested. If that happens, then if anything his price will increase, and if it comes down to a free for all auction, you can bet we'll be easily outbid.

Why do I feel we have seen this before ? James Beattie anyone ? (although dont mind that in retrospect) We always seem to dance around too long and some other club comes in and takes the player before the Bank has authorised Dougs withdrawal. GET A MOVE ON!

So now we learn that Newcastle United have confirmed that Milner will be leaving St. James Park this summer, and they are now waiting for someone, anyone, to meet their 3.5m valuation of the player. They have basically told us to put up, or shut up. Come up with the cash to finance the deal, or move on to seek out other targets in the bargain basement department. Over to you then Doug. Do we have the cash, or dont we?
glensider
I agree. We fanny around with deals we should just complete before other teams come in. There's a whole host of examples if we think long enough. The cynic in me says that it's just more of the same from Doug; we can't afford to buy anyone but we'll make lots of noise so it looks like we're doing something. That'll get the fans excited and buying their season tickets without costing us any more money. If Delaney does go Uncle Gareth there was a great performance last night from the Ecuador right back ... perhaps we should sign him?

i can see someone else beating us to milner now the lad is quality funnily enough just the type of player weve needed for quite a while.
