'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Get Martin O'Neil To Villa NOW

Former Leicester City and Celtic manager Martin O'Neil has said he would have taken the England job if it had been offered and says that he is ready to get back into football management again. What where the FA thinking not going for him?

Seriously, who would you have chosen, Martin O'Neil or Steve McLaren? Exactly!

He told Five Live Sport: 'It is one of the great jobs in football. Had it been offered, then I would have been absolutely foolish to turn it down. But I didn't get the job. I have no recriminations and it's over.'

The bit that is interesting is he backs up what some of the press have been saying for a while, he does want to get back into football.

Oh for goodness sake, won't someone please come and take Villa over, get rid of David O'Dreary and bring us a potential legend to Villa Park!

Martin O'Neil left Celtic in May 2005 due to personal circumstances, needing more time to look after his sick wife.
On his personal situation he said: 'I think my wife would want me to get back to football because I'm an absolute nuisance around the place at the moment. It's something I would dearly love to get back into because I've missed it.'

Something tells me it won't be long before a club with ambition snaps him up. Shame we aren't that club.

'I've tended to go to football matches for enjoyment's sake. I've now gone past that and I want to get back into the unenjoyable part of it. It's such a fantastic game that even to be on the periphiphery is nearly enough.'

There must be someone with a spare £100m sitting in the bank? Anyone?

That Sven Goran Eriksson fake sheikh story should have brought someone forward, that was as good as a world wide advert, the England manager telling everyone that Villa is ripe for takeover and a giant in waiting.
The Fear
I think we should stop beating ourselves up over this one. HDE will never show the ambition to appoint a manager who could take us forward and become idolised by the fans.

DD would be afraid of Martin O'Neill as he (o'neill) is no yes man.

If Ellis wants to think about leaving Villa on a high he should get O'Neill in. But he won't.
Steve W
i wouldnt of minded him as england manager but its too late now. steve will do a good job

We can wish, we can hope, and we can pray, but I think we all know in our heart of hearts, that while HDE remains at Villa Park, it just aint gonna happen.

He is a great man motivator and i reckon the 2 or 3 million to get rid of DO'L to bring in Martin would be more than worth it.he would be as good as signing a new player. How ever im sure that a big factor would be the ambition of DD and his willingness to back him.(hmm we all know the answer to that one)Pipe dreams my fellow villans,Pipe dreams.Any one have any thoughts on signing David Healy?? He would be cheap(at the most 1mill) would have two country men in the first team squad in davis and Hughes so should settle into the team set up with a bit of ease and is a finisher in the mould of a younger phillips?Oh yea i am from N.Ireland so am biased in some of my views but Healy is deff Quality and think he would bang in about 10-15.

Heard O'Neill didn't got to Middlesvilla cos they would not let him bring Robertson and Walford as they wanted Southgate to work along side him. Would love to see him at Villa but it aint going to happen

Oh my god...please...someone...anyone! get this man to Villa Park!!

Must agree with the comment that Ellis would me leaving a massive inheritance if he appointed O Neill. This in normal terms ought to be a persuasive factor for him to change course and bite the bullet. He would still be involved with Villaand would be there himself to enjoy some of the success that would surely follow. The likes of Pat Murpy who interviewed O Neill and all the coverage in the natiomal press surely cannot pass Doug by? If he is working as hard as he implies for the club then it is not too hard a job to say goodbye DOL, you're fired. SOS Mr Ellis, please press the eject button now and put out the welcome mat for a manager supreme. save our clubOr is he asleep?
