Trio Chase Ward?

Former Villa youngster Jamie Ward is being chased by three clubs.

The 20-year-old was released by Villa as they decided not to extend his contract this summer.

His agent Gino Culbertson said: 'The three clubs that have been most prominent and have actually made offers are Torquay United, Stockport County and Wrexham. We would probably make a decision over the next couple of days. He wants to weigh up all the options and it's just a case of him deciding what's best for him. We've had in-depth talks with all three clubs.'

Ward impressed on loan at Stockport and I've mates there, so I'm biased. COME ON STOCKPORT!

Shame we released him, he looked a good little player..

Didnt even realise we'd released him. So let me get this straight.... we loan him out to see if he can compete at a competitive level. He gets rave reviews and we release him. Makes a farce out of the loan system if you ask me.

Yeah but he got rave reviews at Stockport, remember. There's a world of difference between that and Premiership football. Ward is quite short so maybe it was decided he didn't have the physical qualities needed.

How do you explain the sale of Peter Crouch then? lol ;)

Seen Wardy play a few times at County and he will be able to compete at a higher level (though not neccessarily Prem level - so should be OK for Villa in 2007-8 - just a little joke guys!). Several Villa lads come up to see County (beer and women as well as the footy!) and passed favourable comments about Jamie. To Jamie, if you are reading this - you know things are on the up at County DO THE RIGHT THING AND BECOME A HERO) Regards SCFC

hopefully torquay can snap him up. he would do better there

To be fair, none of the academy youngsters we've realised have done it at Premiership level. Only one who looks likely is Boaz Myhill...I hear there's a few prem clubs interested in him

released not realised....proof read!!!!! ;-p

if he was goog enogh he would have been given his chance dol seems happy to give the younger players a go.

Here you guys are talking sadly about some bloke who isn't going to make it, good little player? Are Villa already on the same footing as Wrexham and Stockport. Deano, Peter Crouch is about 8 foot tall hardly "short"

Why don't you release him on loan again for a couple more seasons. You will be gutted if he turns out a cropper. 1 word, Crouch!
POMPEYMEV
are you sure the trio chaisng him arent chelsea, united and liverpool? it would be just like us to release a good player that goes on to do wonderful things at premierhsip level
son_of_cher
Blah blah blah, why bother? Even O'Leary knows when they are not good enough, (he just doesn't know when they are not good enough for the mighty villa ;-)) so let's just let him go and wish him luck in his career in the lower leagues.

He looked good at Stockport! Hardly any reason to offer anyone a contract. A lot of these loans are organised to make it easier for the players to find a club after they are released. Clubs trying to help out young lads that they know will never make it.

I watch football from all 4 divisions and I can see that the lad has got potential. Like I said, maybe only Championship potential but the three clubs in for Wardy are in for potentially a cracking player. Get yer arse to Stockport Jamie!

He never particularly impressed me at youth team level, but then again neither did Gardner and seemingly DOL and co rate the latter highly. Good luck to him though. In his position I'd go to Torquay United. In Ian Atkins I think that they have a coach who will bring out young Wards full potential, and then who knows?

That is the thing, all players have their level and maybe a division or two (or three) is where Jamie needs to be right now. Would have preffered to see him loaned out for a while to hedge our bets but the youth set up does know what it is doing which is something that can't be said for me!!!
