Hendrie Testimonial On, Off, On, Off

Great, another Aston Villa saga being played out in the press.

Reports last week suggested that the club had scrapped plans for Lee Hendrie to have a testimonial, Hendrie being forced out?. Something the midfielder later denied, Villa want shot of Hendrie

Now a report in the Express and Star claims that it was Hendrie who called off the testimonial. According to the report Hendrie will leave this summer and his advisors have told him that it wouldn't be right to 'ask fans for a salute'.

The Birmingham Mail quote operations director Steve Stride saying:

'It is quite wrong to suggest the club has scrapped the plans and it's disappointing this has even been suggested. The fact is we received a request from Lee's own management company to put everything on hold and this was done. Now we're simply waiting for Lee's representatives to come back to us. This is certainly not a case of us going back on our word.'

Kinda makes you proud doesn't it?!?

Shows again that, despite all the things that they definitely do wrong, sometimes we are too quick to jump on the back of the club and blame them for all the ills of the world.

Oh well atleast it gives us something to talk about during these boring days. Remember when we used to be able to talk about transfers? Happy days!

Proud of what, hmmm I'm confused. Does he want to leave..or not?

A testimonial for what..... having been overpaid and earnt a great living whilst never performing to his potential.. give him one as i'd be surprised if more than a couple of hundred turn up....
buck
Even if the club had cancelled it, the regime wouldn't admit to it would they? They'll just sell Hendrie and hope it all goes away. And like Buck says, no-one would go anyway!

cant we put an end to this boring saga

This issue is really getting boring. He deserves at testimonial, he is your longest serving player.

Can't say I see the point of a testimonial for Lee. He's been at the club for ten years but he's only ever done about half a season for us. It's a shame, given the lads potential. Refusing the testimonial is about the most decent thing the lad has done in his time with us.

Got to disagree PompeyMev. Testimonials are outdated, a thing of the past. He's no doubt been sufficiently well rewarded for his time at Villa Park. My beef with this boring chapter of his time at B6 is that one of the two parties involved, either Lee and his advisors or the club itself, are putting out misleading, untrue information, that only adds to the negative gloom that currently surrounds AVFC.

I am not sure whether he deserves a testimonial or not , in my opinion we only really saw the best of Hendrie when he was looking for a new contract, once that was all signed and sorted out he reverted to being a mediocre player or getting injured or sent off

AGREE WITH GLENSIDER, TESTIMONIALS ARE NO MORE. INSTEAD OF THEM WHY NOT HAVE A BENEFIT MATCH WITH ALL MONIES GOING TO THE PLAYERS FAVOURITE CHARITY.
zipadeedoodah
Zip-man, you are quite right. Get the testimonial on and Mr Hendrie give all monies to charity. You would go up in my estimation a la Niall Quinn.
RIP the Swan
