Barry to Pompey? Don't Make Me Laugh

The Sunday press appear to be determined that one of our players will end up at Portsmouth!

Last week we were told that Harry Houdini Rednapp was looking at a bid for Czech international striker Milan Baros and today the News of the World say that Pompey will be bidding 5million for left sided midfielder Gareth Barry.

Barry, who was last week linked to Tottenham Hotspur, is going nowhere according to David O'Leary who has said the only two players he won't consider selling are Gareth Barry and fellow midfielder Steven Davis.

Just hope he's told Doug. :-(

If Pompey are that interested in taking a Villa player, could we not offer them the Djemba twins!?

I don't see the funny side to be honest - Portsmouth are fast becoming a better team than Aston Villa. Barry is a good player, and at some point he will surely ask whether he ows himself the oppotunity to play at a higher level.
pitythefool
Indeed. Pompey may have been a relegation struggler for the past three seasons but what odds did they have of surviving all 3, especially this year. Aston Villa are a good team but I would place my life savings on the fact Pompey will end up higher in the table next season that Villa. The other premiership teams need to be vary wary of Pompey next season as they are growing into a very respectable club. Barry is a good player and if he wants to achieve to his full potential, get out of Villa!

We are one place better than them pitythefool, lets hold on to some hope that we remain bigger than them at least!!!?
The Fear
Would understand and possibly forgive him for going to Spurs(europe, ambitius manager/chairman,Young talented squad and better chance of a crack at the England team) but going to Pompey would really destroy my faith in all humanity as far as i can see all they have is a fat bloke with tats and bells hanging from his nipples.oh and a wacky hat.Harry touretts houdini is a good manager but that is as good as the pomp get.In my unbiased villa eyes. Please dont go gareth pleaseeeeeeee

excuse me but we have been in the prem for 3 season all of them have been average not disasterous and we have scraped by, but now a new era is being born with exciting consequences that will shape years to come (watch this space)
pompeyboy
yeah, pompey might have money but nobody will be attracted to them for a few seasons untill you establish yourselfs as a strong premiership force

Stupid rumour by a stupid journo. Sounds like a lucky dip to me. Make up a list of players who might leave their clubs and put them in a hat. Then make a list of premiership clubs and put them in another hat. Choose a player and choose a club. Instant rumour! :)

We didnt for one minute think that Gareth Southgate would end up at an outfit like Middlesbrough, when he announced his determination to leave B6, so stranger things have indeed happened. Even so, surely he wouldnt choose to move to Portsmouth, particularly when as far as we are all aware, he himself is not particularly looking to leave Villa Park?

I think everyone body could understand the link with Spurs, what with them being in Europe and also being a big club and of course Barry being a Spurs fan, But Portsmouth....somebody really is having a laugh if they think Barry would even consider it. If he leaves it will be to better himself for a bigger club to improve his England ambitions, I'm sorry Portsmouth dont tick any of these boxes yet.

If Portsmouth do come in with a bid, regardless of whether Barry leaves or not, it will be a huge statement of intent from Pompey. It will mean that they've come to play with the big boys.
GaztonVilla
We will play the big boys and we will conquer them. Villa are going down next season.
