Villa & Blues Target Same Striker?

According to the Birmingham Mail Villa are tracking Wigan striker Jason Roberts.

His agent says there are a host of Premiership clubs including Blackburn, Charlton, Aston Villa and arch rivals Birmingham City looking to sign the hit man.

His agent claims that Turkish side Besiktas have had three bids turned down but that the former West Bromwich Albion striker would like to talk to them adding

'I am aware of the interest from Birmingham but as far as we know there has been no offer. There has been a lot of talk but nothing has been done. I believe Aston Villa, Charlton and Blackburn are also keeping tabs on him.'

All sounds like an agent trying to get his player a move to me although other reports suggest Blues might be interested in swapping amule Heskey for Roberts.

Roberts, who scored 14 goals in all competitions last season, says the new contract offer from the Latics isn't acceptable adding 'I just want to get on with my career.'

i reckon he'd do well for villa.

Need someone when Baros and Angel sadly depart. Not sure how well any striker will do unless we get a play maker though.
The Fear
Let's not hold our breaths, it is the silly season after all. Probably wont be anything comfirmed until after WC.
Bubbadog
Agreed, we'll see a few exits first then there will be some bids to bring in replacements, when they turn us down THEN and only then can we start panicking!!
The Fear
Not good enough for us. He runs a lot and is quite strong but he the touch of a bricklayer.

We're limited in the type of player we will be able to attract to Villa Park. Roberts falls into the category of being a realistic target.
glensider
Well if this is true I'll be pleased. Alongside Baros I think he would be a great foil, always causes defenders problems.
Aronno7
I think he could be very effective for us. In fact, if Baros does leave us, a partnership of him and Angel could be fruitful.
