'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cahill To Secure His Future?

Rookie defender and winner of the Vital Villa goal of the season award Gary Cahill is hoping to secure a long term contract at Villa very soon.

The 19-year-old says now the season is over he is ready for more talks telling the official site:

'Hopefully I'll sign. I've said for the past two months that I've wanted it left until the end of the season. We haven't been discussing it for a month or two and that's been fine with the club. But hopefully now the season is finished, we can sit down and get my future sorted. And I'm glad I did it this way because I have concentrated on my football alone and I'd like to think that has stood me in good stead over the last six games as I've performed quite well.'

Adding:
'There are no major snags at all - it's just about sitting down and getting everything sorted. Without a doubt I'm more than happy here.'

He is also hoping to break into and stay in the first team squad next season:

'There's not a chance of me resting on my laurels. I'll think I've made it when I've got two or three years of appearances behind me, not six games. My aims are always high and you have to have ambitions to keep you hungry and keep you wanting to play.'

What great news if he does sign, and then as an Irish Man, I would love to see him declare for Stan

Hope he signs a contract and is played more next year. Maybe in the absence of Mellberg?

He certainly looks a totally different player right now, compared to the rookie we witnessed at The Molinuex pre-season, and at Wycombe in the League Cup. I'd start with him next season alongside a.n. other. I definitely think its time to let Olof move on, as long as we bring in a replacement quality central defender.

He was awesome again on Sunday. Really strong and some crucial blocks. Trouble is I can't see DOL and HDE securing him on a decent contract, they'd do the job of two men - Laurel and Hardy. Not ready for the first team like Davis!

How good to see that you have youngsters who are happy and want to sign on and help the club flourish. Reading your reports, he certainly appears to be one for the future.
