Villa - Juan Long Goodbye?

Villa - Juan Long Goodbye?

31-year-old record signing Juan Pablo Angel looks like he might be moving to pastures new as he looks for talks with Aston Villa over his future.

The Colombian international hit-man says he doesn't want to spend another season as a bit part player spending most of his time on the bench.

He arrived from River Plate for £9.5million but has had a stop start time of it since. His first season was average but the 2003/4 season saw him scoring 23 goals and forming a promising partnership with the now Manchester City striker Darius Vassell. However the following season was plagued with injuries and he has never really forced his way back into regular contention or scoring form since.

Angel said: 'We will see what happens. We have to sit down and talk about it. I have made my feeling clear but we will see what happens in the summer. I want to play regular football. I won't like to have another season like this, being on the bench for most of the season.'

Angel has just two goals this season with just 9 starts being replaced 3 times. He has been on the bench 20 times coming on 18 times.

I hope he stays, he is a quality striker and if they play the ball to him, he can still finish without a doubt. Lets face it, we won't be able to generate a great deal transfer fee wise anyway?

Very simply, if the guy had put in enough effort to justify his huge pay cheque he wouldn't have this problem. Too lazy and too wasteful. I'd rather see Luke Moore or Agbonlahor (can we give this guy a nickname please? agah/bonny/****** eh maybe not the last one) cause at least they will put in the effort.

I'd be very sorry to see him leave, and I hope that upon reflection he decides to write this disappointing campaign, both for the club and for himself personally, off as a one-off, and comes back fully fit with batteries recharged for the 2006-07 season. He's a quality striker, and I still believe he has a very important role to play at Villa Park. If he does move on to pastures new, be it in the premiership or somewhere overseas, you can bet he'll feature prominently on the scoring charts.

he looked good on sunday along side baros...problem is, he isnt given a run in the team with baros.it should be angel and baros to start with phillips to replace either during the game...phillips is a thnker like sheringham he would be more productive coming on later on due to his age/stamina.
