Oh joy of joy, it's that time again!
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jonathan Greening (who looks like the second coming!) has said the Baggies will look to put further pressure on Villa this Sunday and pull us further into the relegation scrap. Villa only have one win in the last seven league matches, but you mustn't worry, because uncle O'Leary loves us all very much and wants to improve things.
The Mirror were one of several to link Milan Baros to Spanish team Villarreal in a £9million move before the World Cup. I'd love to dismiss the report, but if Doug doesn't sell a player, how else is he going to fund spending for next season? It's the old Villa trick, sell a player to two, replace them with one and expect the fans to all be happy. Full article: Click Here
Tickets for this weekends local - and now crunch - local derby v West Bromwich Albion are still on sale. The ticket office have warned that only people with a booking history will be allowed to buy the remaining tickets as they try to ensure the segregation of fans.
Holte End hero Ian Taylor has been talking about Villa manager David O'Leary in The Guardian: 'The manager has been there three years and I think people's patience is wearing a bit thin, we have not moved really in the three years that he has been there. The fans expect a lot more than what's going on and I think as the games go by and the performances don't improve then the more restless they're getting.' Adding: 'The city of Birmingham and its football fans deserve a club challenging at the other end of the league and I want that club to be Aston Villa.' I also put in my tuppence worth! The charity match between Villa Oldstars and Birmingham Oldstars has been 'pulled' and Villa will now face Parkfield Veterans FC with the date - 23rd April 2006 - and the venue - Hollyfields Sports Centre, Woodacre Road (Off Holly Lane), Erdington, Birmingham, remaining the same.

The reserve game v Manchester United is to be played at Tamworth FC. The game was switched from Tuesday April 11 to Saturday April 22 as a consequence of Manchester United's involvement in the Dallas Cup. Admission will be free for Season Ticket holders. Adults (£2), Concessions (£1). This could be the Reserve League North title decider as Villa are six points short of Man Utd but have two games in hand. There you go Mr Cooper, we'll look forward to a match report please! ;-)
Derby disaster number one. Villa captain Olof Mellberg has aggravated his injury in training and will not feature in the local match v West Bromwich Albion. David O'Leary said: 'Olof has seen the physio and he doesn’t feel right just yet. It’s a blow but we’ve just got to get on with things. Olof is a big player for us and he is the captain but he doesn’t feel right to play on Sunday.'
Gareth Barry is also struggling to overcome a knock to his calf.
Roy Aitkin has said that the derby will be motivation enough for the players. 'We're looking for a response but from a motivational point of view the derby game motivates the players. Our results have been poor of late but we feel there's plenty of optimism going into the derbies because we know if we play to our form on the day we've got a very good chance of winning.'
Steven Davis said: 'I think Villa fans would like to see Blues go down but the most important thing for us is results.' Funnily enough I've just had a reporter asking if I would go on record as saying I'd accept a loss v Baggies if it meant David O'Leary would be sacked! I had to decline, I can't do anything but back the mighty Villa v the Baggie Boys but you've got to admit, Doug's vision of us being the top team in the Midlands has certainly become the only focus left for this season, it won't matter to him we are 16th as long as we are above WBA and Blues!
Villa and West Bromwich Albion have both been linked to 19-year-old Coventry City player Kevin Thornton whose contract runs out in the summer.
Rodney Marsh, the voice of the Villa fans, surely not?! He said on talksport the other day: “The chairman is too old, the players aren’t good enough and the manager has ran out of ideas.' Can't argue with that, although I do think some of our players are more than good enough which makes this season even more unforgivable!
Looks like Berson doesn't want to return - and to be fair why would he? His agent Olivier Jouanneaux said: 'Mathieu is quite confident with his future. He has still two years left on his contract with Aston Villa and he knows the usual Spanish clubs are following him. He will wait for Villa to tell him what it wants him to do. Personally, I believe Mathieu could not go back to Villa to live the same season as last year or the one Eric Djemba-Djemba is currently experiencing. A positive solution may have to be found in respect to the parties' interests.'
Milan Baros says he has no regrets coming to Villa but he also doesn't say that he is going to stay! Full article: Click Here
