Villa's Derby Injury Blow

Derby disaster number one. Villa captain Olof Mellberg has aggravated his injury in training and will not feature in the local match v West Bromwich Albion.

David O'Leary said: 'Olof has seen the physio and he doesn’t feel right just yet. It’s a blow but we’ve just got to get on with things. Olof is a big player for us and he is the captain but he doesn’t feel right to play on Sunday.'

So why not move Wilfred Bouma into the centre where he plays for Holland? Gareth Barry (if fit) could slot easily into the left back position although reports at the moment are suggesting Barry is also struggling for fitness after picking up a knock to his calf.

With Delaney still out it seems likely that Aaron Hughes will partner Liam Ridgwell at the back.

Were they not looking to be fit all of a sudden they are now out? I really do fear for Hughes/Ridgewell combo, and thats before you even consider DLC's contribution down the right!

Be ok if Ridgwell could stay on his feet, he seems to keep falling over at the moment. He really has been thrown in at the deep end this season, I still say he'll end up a good player for us, but it has been a baptism of fire.

I think Hughes seems to have this constant idea that he's always playing right back. Whne someone goes past him he expects someone to slot in behind to clear up. What Ridgewell thinks half the time, who knows!

Its not looking good is it? If I were an Albion player I'd be thinking this is a great time to go and do Villa over.

So how many diasters are there going to be? I really hope Barry recovers. He's been such a key player for us this year.

Its certainly not getting any easier for us that's for sure. Its easy to say that injuries happen and the players need to stand up and be ******ed, but sadly they never do. Certainly a game we daren't lose though.

Looks like Barry and Baros will now return but Mellberg is definitely out.
