Sub Plot For Villa Striker Sale?

The Mirror have an article by Martin Rogers today suggesting that Baros is about to swap one Villa for another. Our top striker is being linked to a £9million move to Villarreal with a bid expected before the World Cup.

Very worrying, because the sub plot at Villa will be to take the money and use it to buy players in the summer. Then come August the club will claim to have spent £9million and the press will report that Doug has put his hand in his pocket again. If only they took away sales from the purchase figures, they would see most managers have 'survived' on a very similar budget.

The report re-iterates that Baros has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave if another team make a bid of above a certain level. They now quote £18m whereas last week it was between £13-15million.

It also says that Villarreal will want to bid before the world cup in case the players value goes up if he puts in the same performances as he did in the Euro Cup for the Czech Republic.

David O'Leary has also stated that he wants a bigger 'James Beattie' type striker, so might also decide to cash in on Milan.

And if the player wants out, he'll get out.

We'll end up with a squad like Dad's army With Ellis like Mannering, DOL like Sgt Wilson, Whittingham as Pike and Olly as our very own Cpl Jones 'They don't like it uppum...' You can't put Quantity over quality. UTV

Theres no smoke without fire. Think he'll be off, but not until after the World Cup where hopefully he'll boost his value.

Yes the guy obviously wants out, and who in all honesty can blame him? I'll be very sad to see him go, if only because it once again confirms that we can no longer keep quality performers happy at Villa Park. I still say that despite the clubs official line that he'll only be allowed to leave if a bid of x amount comes in, we'll end up selling for as little as what we paid for him. No manager, whether it be O'Leary or whoever, would want to keep an unhappy player at the club.

I would hope we get at least £10 million, got to make some sort of profit from him!

I don't blame him, wouldn't blame Barry, Angel, Mellberg either if they moved to a club with more ambition that would give them a chance of winning something. There careers are short and it isn't all about the money for most of them. There could well be a real exodus this summer if something doesn't happen takeover wise, including fans.

I read a few years ago of a Sheffield Wednesday supporter who quit in protest at the Ellis type non-sense that went on at that club. Fans are staying away in numbers and the club is definately on the slide. For players like Mellberg and Baros who head off to the world cup, I can't imagine them looking forward to returning to Villa Park. Barry has got to be thinking that if he was at a champions league team he'd be going there too. All very worrying.

I dont see the likes of Barry, Angel, or Mellberg getting a much better Premiership club? Maybe Barry to Newcastle but the other two, courtesy of our (and their own?) atrocious form would get nothing better than the usual suspects of Bolton, Charlton, Boro.
