Angel For Hire?

Reports doing the rounds today suggest that Spurs manager Martin Jol tried and failed to sign Juan Pablo Angel during the January transfer window and will make a move for the Columbian hit-man once again in the Summer.

Angel, who has been a bit part player for Aston Villa this season, may well jump at the chance of moving to a club with a midfield capable of setting up chances for their strikers. Despite being a quality player, the 30-year-old often looks like he is running around like a headless chicken for Villa as there is little - if any supply.

Angel, who is currently on just two Premiership goals, moved from River Plate in January 2001 for a club record of 9.5million.

Martin Jol is apparently looking for at least one more striker and might have to add more if Jermain Defoe leaves in order to get first team football or if he fails to sign Mido permanently from Roma.

Maybe we could swap Defoe for Angel, then everyone would be happy?!

According to The Sun, it must be true if it's in that giant amongst tabloids, we can expect to get only half back of the 9.5 million we paid for him. Sounds like good business to me, I like JPA but he just hasn't lived up to that magnificent season 2 years ago.

Any good chaps? Not exactly a top scorer is he? Why would we (Spurs) want him?

If we got half our money back I would wet myself laughing! I'd sell him for 1.5million, he's past his best and doesn't appear interested. Having said that, at a new club...... who knows?

I'm not sure he isn't interested, just think the supply at Villa stinks and we don't play to the strenghts of any of our strikers, we expect them to feed off scraps and score 20 goals a season. It will never happen. With the spurs set up and quality midfield, I think he would do a good job. No idea how much he would be worth, but doubt it would be more than 3million. Wouldn't say no to Defoe in part of the deal. That said, I'm sure with our current standing, he would say no!

The way in which the team has been playing lately, hoofing long balls up to the strikers, definitely doesn't suit Juampi. When DOL said earlier this season that he saw Angel as more of a target man I groaned. Yes he's good in the air but since his injury he doesn't have the same spring to his jumps so playing the ball along the floor is better for him. Spurs, on the other hand, are much more of a footballing side than we are and if Juampi moves there I think we'll see something close to the player of 2 seasons ago. He and Mido would be excellent together I think. Anything around the 3 million pound mark would be good business for each side, but I fear we'll only get 1.5 million.

Ive actually been very impressed with Angel over the last few months, he has really responded to competition in the team and has worked really hard. Unfortunately despite that he hardly ever looks like scoring a goal in this team. If we can reinvest the money on new players then I would suggest selling him, but if not then we may as well keep hold of him.

I'd be sorry to see him leave, but if the money was put back into the team and we could bring in a younger version then I would sell for around 3-4 million. Still think he could score goals for us if he got the supply though.

Looking at Vassall, who has missed a few but still managed to bang in more than he would have down our place, I think its lack of creativity in the midfield. Barry can't do it all on his own. If Millner goes who we gonna get. A berger or a Bakke? The pain!

JPA is still class - put him in a good team and he'll show he's not a one season wonder.

The problem doesnt lay with Juan Pablo, it lays with the total and utter lack of creativity provided via our midfield. The guys a proven goalscorer, you dont lose that natural instinct. Put him into the current Tottenham line up and he'd score goals for fun. Sell him. Why not? We sell off all of our quality players, why stop now?
