Villa Hit The Big Time

Wow, Villa have hit the big time and won their fourth home game of the season. Now Kevin Phillips is calling on the team to go on a run up until the end of the season.

At Villa Park they face Fulham at the end of March before taking on local rivals West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City on consecutive Sundays in April. They then take on Manchester City and have a season finale against Sunderland.

Kevin Phillips - who was unlucky not to score a great chipped goal on Saturday against relegation candidates Portsmouth - told the official site:

'We all know the home record hasn't been good enough this season - there no point denying it. But we've got five home games left and we want to win them all. That would make our record at Villa Park a lot more respectable. It was a big win for us on Saturday. We really needed three points at home and I think we thoroughly deserved the victory.'

He also says he was 'delighted but disappointed' at his performance as he says he should have scored adding 'the one where I hit the post summed it up for me. It was a great ball through from Gareth and my first touch was OK, but I just let it get away from me and only got a toe to the shot.'

Those two local derbies in April are basically all we have left to play for this season. The season has been yet another write off and although O'Leary would have you believe otherwise, he has taken us backwards. My hope is a win in the two local derbies, a new board and a clean broom throughout, including the manager. Hey, we can but dream.

Another hope is that Super Kev starts from now until the end of the season, he is a determined and skillful player who doesn't dive, cheat or whinge.

Those are definately 5 winnable games, but its the ones that look winnable on paper that we usually struggle with.

The Brum game really worries me. I think we'll see off West Brom without too much trouble, but it's the game against Bruce's lads that concerns me. If we get 8 points from the 15 on offer, I guess that would be par for the course going by this seasons home form.
