Cahill Delighted With Claret & Blue

Young Villa defender Gary Cahill has returned to fitness after playing over an hour in the reserves 0-0 draw with Bolton.

In a very Monty Python esque manner, the central defender said it was good to 'look on the bright side of life', unfortunately - and he really should have - he didn't add, la la, la la, la la la la la laaaa. Or is that just me?

Cahill has missed four months with an ankle injury which must have been a real blow because with our crisis in the defence he would have been very likely to get a chance in the first team.

He told the official site: 'I like to look at the positives when it comes to injury. It's never good to get an injury that rules you out for a long time but hopefully I've got all of them out of the way now. If this is the last major one of my career I'll be delighted. My ambition now is to play games on a regular basis. I've missed such a large amount of the season, that has to be my aim now.'

He also said: 'I was delighted to put the claret and blue shirt back on.' You don't need to say anymore than that really, I wish all our players could remember what a privilege it is to put on the mighty claret and blue shirts on!

Will be good to see what he can do, and nice to see a Villa team containing the likes of Cahill, Ridgewell, Barry, Davis and Moore. Now we just need a few 'stars' to aid their development.

If he can get in the team for a few matches i think he will be very hard to get out of it.

When DOL was spouting on about how we need a new Central Defender, if it had have happened then Cahill would have done the off I reckon. After all he was in the Championship team of the year for last year and won't want to lose that momentum.

Good to see him back in action. Not yet fully convinced about him though, despite his success at Turf Moor. I'd seen a lot of him at both youth and reserve team level, and he looked a good possibility for the future. However at The Molinuex in the pre-season friendly, and again to some extent at Wycombe in the League Cup, he was struggling somewhat. Dont want to be overly negative though, a lot better judges than I have rated him as a star of tomorrow.
