Delaney Boost - Will Doug Muck Up?
David O'Leary says the club are about to offer Mark Delaney a new contract and confirmed they will be taking up the option in his current deal which expires at the end of the season.
Delaney said a few days ago he felt that he was being pushed out, so hopefully he will now be able to settle down and carry on his fantastic form in the centre of defence with Olof Mellberg.
O'Leary says of the Wales international:
'I want to have Mark here next season. 'He has been playing well at the centre of defence and I know he wants to sign a long-term contract.'
So Delaney wants to sign. O'Leary wants him to sign. I wonder what Doug will do to ....... no, sorry, mustn't be a cynic!

We'd be mad to let Delaney go, he's a real 110% player and you'd have to spend a fair bit to replace him... money we haven't got. Even Doug must see that we must keep him?

It's about time, if we didn't have him we would be right down in the relegation battle. Eben though his future at Villa has been unsure he still pulls out the performances.

As I understand the situation the year's extension can't be brought into force until March. Surely then everything will be sorted and it will just be a case of crossing the "T's" and dotting the "I's" on the one year option. However knowing our board.....

Definitely needs to stay however what DOl wants and what the board give him do not seem to match at the moment.
